This coming week is Spring Break and it’s time to get those creative vibes flowing. Whether you have children that need to be kept amused, or you want to channel that creative adult spirit, there is something for everyone. Registration for the BARN (Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network) Spring Sampler opens on Monday, April 3. Make sure you get in early to reserve your spot for their event on April 30 where you can enjoy a self-guided tour of all 10 studios, meet artisans in action with live demonstrations, and see how BARN inspires community through craft with their non-profit “makerspace" and learning place. Heart & Soul at Winslow Green is hosting a daily three-hour Spring Break Art Camp any day Tuesday to Friday. Kids from 5 to 12 will be split into four different age groups and will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of mixed media experiences including: Painting Pottery, Making Mosaics, Creating Fused glass, Mixed-media painting and Art/Science Activities. On Saturday, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is hosting an Introduction to Drawing and Painting People with Julie Read, who is an acrylic painter specializing in realism. Julie will guide you step-by-step on drawing portraits, sampling a variety of drawing tools and papers, and will share tried and true methods of finding proportion and capturing likeness, managing light values, and developing your own style.

Registration for BARN’s Spring Sampler Open House

Registration opens on Monday, April 3 for BARN’s Spring Sampler Open House on Sunday, April 30. Take a self-guided tour of all 10 BARN studios. Meet artisans in action with live demonstrations and see how BARN inspires community through craft.

Know before you go:

This is registration for an Open House to take place on April 30, 1pm-4pm. Registration is online but the event is in person for the whole family. To give you lots of room to explore, entry is limited, so don’t wait to register! Please make sure to enter the number of people that will be in your party when you register. The box to enter that number will be on the left-hand side at the bottom of your registration.

Find out how BARN can add craft and invention to your life. A non-profit makerspace and learning place, BARN has studios for everything from Electronic & Technical Arts to Woodworking. Take a class, work on a project, or come to share your knowledge with others. BARN is a unique place where well-equipped studios invite exploration and innovation.

Everyone is welcome – you do not need to be a BARN member to participate. Taking a class is a great way to learn more about a studio and meet others who share your interests. Spring Break One-Day Art Camps at Heart & Soul DIY Art

Throughout the week, Kids will have the opportunity to experience projects from a variety of mixed media experiences including: Painting Pottery, Making Mosaics, Creating Fused glass, Mixed-media painting. Art/Science Activities. Members receive 15% off! Kids will be eating lunch, so please send a lunch and a water bottle. Open to ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12. Art instruction is geared to accommodate ages and ability levels!

Looking for a fun activity on Bainbridge Island? Want to feel more peaceful and connected? Enjoy a day of relaxation and creative enjoyment at Bainbridge HeArt and Soul’s DIY Art Studio. Whether it’s a date, a birthday party, a family activity or a team-building get-away for you and your colleagues, creative arts and painting ceramics is relaxing, and great fun. Especially when all you do is create – and the rest is taken care of for you. The rhythmic, repetitive motion of painting has been known to have the same benefits to your mind and body as a meditation session. Drop in anytime during store hours or you may reserve a time to get creative!

Birthday parties and Group parties are available in-store for kids and adults. Off-site parties are also available and both can be booked online. Register your kids for weekly After-School Art Enrichment Classes, Kids’ Nights Out on Sat. evenings and Seasonal Camps. Interested in Adult Classes? Classes are offered upon request. Introduction to Drawing and Painting People with Julie Read

Instructor Julie Read, an acrylic painter specializing in realism, will guide you step-by-step on drawing portraits, sampling a variety of drawing tools and papers. She will share tried and true methods of finding proportion and capturing likeness, managing values, and developing your own style.

Join the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community (BIJAC) as they commemorate the 81st anniversary of the forced removal of Japanese Americans from Bainbridge Island. Each year at the Commemoration BIJAC gather with guest speakers and members of the community at the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial to reflect on the first forced removal and exile of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. The events are open to the public.

Since opening its LEED Gold certified building in 2013, BIMA has become the cultural living room for the local community. The Museum’s galleries, auditorium, Bistro, Store and plaza buzz with a variety of events covering the entire artistic spectrum.

BIMA’s exhibitions feature recognized masters and emerging artists that are sure to leave you inspired by their striking work and thought-provoking themes. With major exhibitions changing three times per year (that’s 15-20 new shows to experience annually!), as well as classes, tours, films, workshops, lectures, concerts and events, there is always something new and exciting to experience at BIMA.

BIMA actively delivers its artistic vision through a variety of educational programs. The Museum’s Arts Growth Initiative focuses on advancing its multi-pronged educational program, including field trips for students throughout the region during the school day, hands-on art projects to children of all ages, after-school art clubs, summer camps, workshops for adult learners, and programs for people going through Early Stage Memory Loss.
