Hosted by the island’s Poet Laureate, Michele Bombardier, this event is a unique opportunity to hear both established and emerging poets share their work. This week’s special guest is Uche Nduka, a Nigerian American poet whose latest book, Bainbridge Island Notebook, reflects his deep connection to the area. Whether you’re an avid poetry fan or just curious, this event promises an evening of thoughtful reflection and creative expression. Sign-ups for the open mic begin at 6:45 PM, so if you have a poem you’ve been itching to share, this is your chance. Plus, wine, tea, and cookies will be served.

Next, take a break from the ordinary and enjoy a movie night at the park. The City of Bainbridge Island’s Movies in the Park series continues this week with a screening of the action-packed classic, Twister. Set against the backdrop of a summer evening, this event is perfect for families and friends looking to enjoy some quality time together. Bring your blankets, chairs, and snacks, and settle in for a night of thrills and adventure as the film takes you on a whirlwind journey. The movie is rated PG-13, making it suitable for teens and adults alike. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors while catching a movie you might not have seen in years.

Finally, cap off your week with some live music at Eleven Winery, featuring the talented Made by Ottimo. This event is all about good vibes, good wine, and good music. As you sip on some of the island’s finest wines, you’ll be treated to soulful tunes that create the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing evening. It’s the ideal way to wind down after a busy week, whether you’re with friends or just looking to enjoy some solo time with a glass of wine and great music.

8/16 Movies in the Park - Twister (PG-13)

Summer means movies in the park. On Friday, August 16th, 2024, Bainbridge Island's Movies in the Park series continues with a screening of the 1996 classic, "Twister." This outdoor event will take place at Battle Point Park, offering a great way to enjoy a summer evening with family and friends under the stars.

"Twister" is a thrilling action-adventure film rated PG-13, making it suitable for older kids and adults. The movie follows a team of storm chasers as they track one of the most powerful tornadoes in history. It’s a mix of suspense, special effects, and a bit of 90s nostalgia that still holds up today.

The movie starts at dusk, so be sure to arrive early to grab a good spot. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and maybe a few snacks to enjoy while you watch. If you’d rather not pack your own food, local vendors will be on-site, offering a variety of snacks and refreshments to enjoy throughout the evening.

Movies in the Park is a family-friendly event, but since "Twister" is rated PG-13, it’s recommended for older kids and adults. This film might be a bit intense for younger children due to its action-packed scenes and intense weather sequences. Parents should use their discretion.

This event is a part of Bainbridge Island's summer tradition and a great opportunity to relax, unwind, and enjoy a movie with the community. Whether you’re a fan of classic films or just looking for something fun to do on a Friday night, Movies in the Park is the perfect way to spend an evening. Don’t forget to bring your friends, family, or even just yourself for a laid-back night of entertainment.
