Bainbridge Island has three events coming up in mid-March that highlight music, storytelling, and community. On Saturday, March 15, Around the World in 80 Drums will take place at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. Percussionist and educator Antonio Gomez will introduce and perform using percussion instruments from the ancient Mediterranean, North Africa, and Latin America. He will also share the history of these instruments and how they spread across different cultures through migration, trade, and conquest. His background as a musician and educator makes this an opportunity to learn about the connections between music and history.

That evening, Bingo Night 2025 will be held at the Stan Pocock Rowing Center. Hosted by Arms Around Bainbridge, this annual fundraiser helps support local individuals and families facing financial hardship due to illness. The event includes dinner, beverages, games, and prizes. Bingo Night is a way for people to come together, enjoy a social evening, and contribute to a community cause.

On Sunday, March 16, musician and storyteller Melanie Beth Curran will perform Irish American folk music. Her repertoire includes both original and traditional songs inspired by field recordings, her ancestors, and contemporary Irish American sources. Playing banjo, guitar, and singing, she explores the evolution of Irish American music, from older traditions to modern ballads. Her performance will also include readings from her zine series on Irish America and a relaxation exercise she calls the Guided “You Are a Potato” Meditation.

These events offer different ways to engage with music, history, and the Bainbridge Island community. Whether through learning about global percussion, playing bingo for a cause, or listening to Irish American folk music, each event provides something to experience and enjoy.
