We have flowers, people! Birds are chirping, the sun is out longer… and it’s still pouring buckets. Well we can’t have it all right? That said, my feelings of optimism grow stronger day by day.

The Maritime Northwest Garden Guide by Tilth Alliance

The Maritime Northwest Garden Guide by Tilth Alliance. As a transplant to the PNW, I am often pulling curbside consults with my green thumb friends, (thank you Stina, Renee and Siri!). I’d like to think I have gifts, but I just found out about nitrogen. It’s not dire but I’m on a journey.  While at Bay Hay and Feed last month, they recommended this book. SOLD. It’s everything I ever wanted and more. You put the peas in the ground now but I’m holding steady on tomatoes. This is a calendar, bible, encyclopedia and is very loved by me.

Inclusions:

  • Planning calendar for year-round organic gardening

  • Provides detailed suggestions on seasonally appropriate garden activities

  • What to sow indoors or outdoors and when

Bark App.

As a parent to emerging technology users this is a really great tool that another friend told me about (Jen continues to be a wealth of information, plus a 25 year old friend to boot- keep those hits coming!)

We haven’t fully stepped into allowing social media on kid devices but are exploring ways for us to find comfort for both kiddo and parent.

Bark monitors texts, email, YouTube, and 30+ apps and social media platforms for signs of issues like cyberbullying, sexual content, online predators, depression, suicidal ideation, threats of violence, and more. Bark runs in the background in search of issues that might indicate that something is wrong in your child’s online world. They have test cases for bullying, self harm etc.
Bark can also monitor, control screen time or block websites that you choose. It has a lot of options for growing independence and judgment for our neo-adults.

I have loved this man’s commentary for over a decade and will often find myself seeking out shows or movies just so that I can run along his magnificent mind and humor and appreciate his view of the world.  Find him on Twitter here.   He’s also the host of one of my favorite podcasts- Pop Culture Happy Hour.
