So many more new events are starting to pop up on the Island - which are good indications we are into Spring and beginning to get ready for Summer! Start your week by signing up for Spring Skills of a Naturalist - Wildflowers & Other Wonders at IslandWood. Learn how to confidently identify wild spring plants that are edible and medicinal (like Stinging Nettle!) and discover some lesser-known species as well. IslandWood is an environmental education nonprofit inspiring the next generation of Environmental Stewards. Food Trucks are definitely a sign of warmer days and the weekend begins with Southern BBQ at Eleven Winery! Grab a Pulled Pork Sandwich, Ribs or skip straight to the Banana Pudding from Double D's BBQ & Smokery! Enjoy your food with your pick of some delicious Eleven Wines. Elevate your eating and dining experience by spending Saturday evening at a WineMaker Dinner with Frichette Winery. Enjoy a handpicked flight of Frichette Wines in Heyday Farm’s festive barn followed by a 4-course meal in their community style dining farmhouse where you choose your favorite wines from the tasting experience to accompany your food.

Spring Skills of a Naturalist - Wildflowers & Other Wonders
We wait for spring all year, and before we know it, the bracken ferns are waist-high! Go along to learn how to confidently identify wild spring plants that are edible and medicinal. You’ll meet some old favorites (like stinging nettle), and discover some lesser-known species as well. You’ll forage and nibble on plants you find, and explore botanical language on identification and plant anatomy.
You’ll walk away with a new appreciation for native plants, their nutritive and ecological value, and even learn a few “weeds” that you can add to your salads!

Due to the content and pace of this program, this listing is an adults only class. They will offer a family-friendly and kids program like this in the future too, so no worries!
Your instructor for this session will be IslandWood staff naturalist, Christina Woolf. Christina is a Master Birder (Seattle Audubon, 2011), WDFW Wetland Monitor (2014), Certified Beach Naturalist (2014), and Certified Interpretive Guide (National Association of Interpretation (2015), and has been joyfully teaching environmental education for over 20 years.
This class is rain or shine, so please dress in layers and always bring a rain layer, gloves and hat at this time of year.
Please remember their campus policy is ‘no dogs unless they are a service animal’.
They always cap off event hikes with a sweet treat of homemade cookies too!
IslandWood is an environmental education nonprofit. They offer a variety of immersive programs throughout the Seattle region to help children, educators, and community members deepen their understanding of the world around them, explore important environmental issues, and see the power they have to make a positive impact on their communities and the planet.
Their programs – ranging from several days to several hours to several months – are designed to meet the different needs of the communities they serve. From the woods of Bainbridge Island, to streams in Seattle, to schoolyards in Tacoma, to the halls of the State Capitol building, they are working to create hands-on learning experiences for the region’s students, educators, and community members.

Eleven Winery is the result, ultimately, of an epiphany. The founder and winemaker, Matt Albee, having hung up his racing bike after chasing the dream of professional suffering on two wheels around the globe, started looking around for what to do next. A voice in his head spoke “you should be a winemaker”, and that was the beginning of it all. Matt and his wife Sarah were living in the San Francisco Bay area, where they had spent many weekends touring and tasting at wineries, so it seemed like giving winemaking a try might be feasible without having to go too far. He met with a winemaker at age Mill Winery whom he helped with harvest. Fast forward to 2003 where the first grapes were crushed and to 2004 where the first whites were released. In 2011, the winery was relocated to larger space just a short distance from the original location, still on Bainbridge Island.

Frichette Winery Winemaker Dinner at Heyday Farm
Winemaker dinner with Greg & Shae Frichette! The evening will start with tasting a handpicked flight of wines in the festive barn. It will then move into the farmhouse to enjoy a 4-course meal. Glass pours and bottles of wine will be available for purchase throughout the night and they wll offer a discount on Take Home Wine.

Frichette Winery opened its doors a decade ago when the husband and wife team, Greg and Shae Frichette, decided to move across the country and start something new that they were both excited about making wine and creating memorable experiences surrounding wine. They've grown throughout the years in their winemaking and offerings and continue to make flavorful and smooth wines that will leave you wanting another sip.
The event will feature Heyday Farm’s lively Community Seating arrangements at tables throughout the historic farmhouse.
The ticket price includes a tasting flight of wines and a 4-course meal. Additional wine by the glass and bottle will be available for purchase during dinner. Tax and Gratuity are not included in the ticket price. Vegetarian option available upon request. No Menu Substitutions. Please share the menu with your guests if purchasing tickets for others.
