Then, on Friday night, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is turning up the energy with After Party: Campana, a thrilling live performance by the genre-blending hip-hop artist Campana. Known for his introspective lyrics and innovative sound, Campana first gained recognition as the lead singer of COSMOS, a Seattle-based band that took the local music scene by storm. Now, as a solo artist, he continues to push creative boundaries, weaving together personal storytelling and infectious beats. His performance at BIMA promises to be an unforgettable night of music, energy, and connection. Rounding out the weekend, BIMA is also hosting the Celebrating Black Voices Film Fest, a one-day event dedicated to honoring Black filmmakers past and present. Featuring a selection of classic and contemporary films, this festival not only showcases groundbreaking cinema but also sparks conversations about history, identity, and artistic expression. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate Black History Month while experiencing the power of storytelling through film. With such a diverse lineup of events, this week on Bainbridge Island is a perfect reminder of the power of the arts to entertain, challenge, and inspire. MagPie
This week, Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) and Bainbridge Island Theater Lab (BitLab) are bringing something special to the island: MagPie, a captivating new play by local playwright Catherine Rush, directed by Rachel Noll James. Running from February 6 to 9, this limited engagement offers a unique chance to experience a story that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Set in 1978, MagPie takes us inside the walls of the prestigious Pierson School, a boarding institution for girls. At the heart of the story are roommates Maggie Guthrie and Peggy Norris, best friends navigating the trials of adolescence. But when Peggy unknowingly finds herself at the center of a power struggle—one involving a predatory music teacher, two well-intentioned counselors, a no-nonsense new dean, and a 12-year-old Iranian student—tensions rise, leading to dramatic and unexpected consequences.
This production is part of BPA’s Studio Series, a program designed to showcase intimate, thought-provoking works alongside their Mainstage season. Performed in BPA’s newly unveiled Cynthia Sears Studio, the Studio Series fosters collaboration with local theater groups, like BitLab, providing resources such as performance space, production support, and administrative assistance. It’s a way to amplify the voices of independent theater makers while bringing fresh, boundary-pushing storytelling to Bainbridge audiences.
BitLab itself is a creative collective dedicated to developing and producing new works by Northwest playwrights. Comprised of experienced industry professionals, the group is passionate about discovering bold, original voices and expanding the theatrical landscape with innovative, locally rooted storytelling. Their partnership with BPA in presenting MagPie is a perfect example of how community-driven theater can thrive when given the right platform.
If you love intimate, thought-provoking theater, this is an event you won’t want to miss. It’s an opportunity to engage with a gripping narrative, support local artists, and experience the power of live storytelling in an intimate setting.

After Party: Campana
This Friday, February 7, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) is turning up the energy with After Party: Campana, an electrifying evening of music and storytelling featuring the dynamic artist Campana. Kicking off at 8:00 PM, this event promises an intimate yet high-energy performance that blends hip-hop with a range of musical influences, all shaped by Campana’s deeply personal and reflective lyricism.
Born in Bremerton and raised in Seattle, Campana first made a name for himself as the lead vocalist for the band COSMOS. The group gained widespread recognition after winning Seattle’s MoPop “Sound Off!” Battle of the Bands in 2016, propelling them onto major festival stages, including Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot, and Sasquatch! Music Festival. Their success even took them to Prince’s iconic Paisley Park Estate in Minnesota, where they competed in MUSICOLOGY, a national battle of the bands event.
During the pandemic, Campana took the opportunity to focus on his solo career, creating his debut album, Matter of Time. The project, which showcases his evolution as an artist, was not only featured in the Seattle Times' “Top 16 Albums of 2021” but also inspired a short film of the same name. His film went on to earn multiple award nominations and won the “Audience Award” at Black Film Fest ATL.
This After Party event at BIMA offers a rare chance to see Campana in an up-close setting, where his storytelling and musicality take center stage. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering his work, expect an engaging and immersive performance that bridges genres and emotions.
So, if you’re looking for a way to spice up your Friday night with some incredible live music and artistic energy, this is the place to be. Get ready to vibe, reflect, and lose yourself in the rhythm—After Party: Campana is set to be an unforgettable night.
