This week on Bainbridge Island is packed with events that bring people together and celebrate our community. Whether you’re in the mood to network with local professionals, enjoy a delicious potluck dinner while learning about conservation efforts, or lose yourself in the lively melodies of Hot Club Swing, there’s something happening that’s sure to catch your interest. From Thursday through Sunday, there are three standout events that offer the perfect blend of fun, connection, and inspiration—and you won’t want to miss a single one!

Start your week off on Thursday, January 24th, with the Bainbridge Chamber’s After Hours, a long-running favorite for professionals, business owners, and community members looking to connect in a laid-back setting. Happening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, this monthly happy hour mixer rotates between different member-hosted venues, creating a fresh experience each time. Whether you’re there to meet new faces, strengthen existing business relationships, or just enjoy the warm atmosphere, this event is all about fostering connections in the community. Best of all, it’s free for Chamber members and a guest—though non-members may also attend for a small ticket fee if space allows. With spots filling up quickly, be sure to register early and bring your networking game (and maybe a stack of business cards).

On Friday, January 31st, it’s time to celebrate the incredible conservation work happening on Bainbridge Island with the 2025 Annual Meeting & Community Potluck hosted by the Land Trust. Taking place at Grace Episcopal Church from 5 to 8 PM, this free event is open to all and offers a great way to connect with others who care deeply about protecting the natural beauty of the island. The evening starts with a social hour at 5 PM, where you can sip free beverages and mingle, followed by a potluck dinner and program at 6 PM. Bring your favorite dish to share, and don’t forget to pack your own plates, cups, and utensils to help make this a zero-waste event! Whether you’re a longtime Land Trust supporter or just curious about their work, you’ll love hearing about the exciting projects on the horizon—and celebrating the recipients of this year’s Phyllis Young Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.

Finally, end the week on Sunday, February 2nd, with a musical treat at Bainbridge Performing Arts: Django’s Birthday Celebration, honoring jazz legend Django Reinhardt’s 115th birthday. From 6 to 9 PM, enjoy an evening of soulful swing music with local favorites Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers’, joined by guest musicians Tovi Newman (guitar), Toby Hanson (accordion), and Stephen Vail (saxophone). With pay-what-you-can tickets and a suggested donation of $20, this event is as accessible as it is entertaining. Expect lively melodies, intricate solos, and a welcoming atmosphere that’ll have you tapping your feet all night long.

Bainbridge Chamber: After Hours

Looking to wind down your week with great conversation, new connections, and a glass of something refreshing? The Bainbridge Island Chamber’s After Hours series is just the place. Happening this Thursday, January 24th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, this popular monthly event is all about blending business with a bit of fun—and it’s perfect for building relationships in a relaxed setting.

For years, After Hours has been a cornerstone of the Bainbridge Chamber community. Whether you’re a seasoned local entrepreneur, a brand-new business owner, or just someone looking to grow your network, these happy hours are designed to connect people, spark conversations, and foster collaborations. Think of it as equal parts casual mixer and opportunity incubator, where you’ll leave with fresh ideas, new business leads, and maybe even some new friends.

Each month, a member business takes on hosting duties, adding its unique flavor to the event. From trendy offices to cozy local venues, these rotating locations set the stage for an evening of networking and mingling. This week’s host promises a warm welcome, a fantastic atmosphere, and all the makings of a memorable evening.

The best part? If you’re a Chamber member, you (and a guest!) can attend for free. Not a member? No problem—there’s still a chance to join in the fun. Depending on the host venue, a limited number of tickets are available for outside guests, so you can still snag your spot by registering early. Trust us when we say these events tend to fill up fast!

What makes After Hours truly special is its blend of business and community spirit. The energy is lively but approachable, and the people you’ll meet are as diverse as Bainbridge itself—local leaders, small business owners, creatives, and more. Whether you’re there to chat about your latest project, scout a potential collaboration, or simply enjoy some time connecting with others in the community, this event strikes the perfect balance between productivity and fun.

BI Land Trust Annual Meeting & Community Potluck

On Friday, January 31st, the Bainbridge Island Land Trust is hosting its 2025 Annual Meeting & Community Potluck at Grace Episcopal Church (8595 NE Day Rd), and you’re invited to join the festivities. This beloved community gathering is the perfect chance to celebrate another successful year of land conservation while enjoying the warmth of good company and great food.

The evening kicks off at 5 PM with a Social Hour, where you can mingle, sip complimentary beverages, and meet others who share a love for our Island’s natural beauty. At 6 PM, the main event begins: a potluck dinner and program that combines delicious homemade dishes with exciting updates from the Land Trust team. Bring a favorite dish to share—whether it’s your signature casserole, a fresh salad, or a sweet treat, your contribution will add to the spirit of community.

This event isn’t just about food; it’s about connection. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of the Land Trust or brand-new to Bainbridge, this is your opportunity to meet neighbors, make friends, and learn about the projects on the horizon for the Land Trust. You'll also have the chance to honor two special individuals who’ve gone above and beyond in their dedication to conservation: the recipients of the Phyllis Young Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award.

One of the many things that make this potluck special is its commitment to sustainability. This is a zero-waste event, so be sure to bring your own cups, plates, and utensils. It’s a small ask that goes a long way in aligning with the Land Trust’s mission to care for the environment.

Django's Birthday with Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers’

This Sunday, February 2nd, Bainbridge Performing Arts will be buzzing with music, energy, and the spirit of one of jazz’s greatest legends: Django Reinhardt. From 6 to 9 PM, join local band Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers’ and an incredible lineup of guest soloists for Django’s Birthday Celebration, a night of toe-tapping Hot Club Swing music.

If you’re a fan of lively melodies, intricate guitar solos, and the timeless magic of swing, this event is not to be missed. Django Reinhardt, the legendary Romani guitarist who rose to fame in the 1930s, was a pioneer of the genre, creating a sound that still resonates deeply with musicians and audiences today. Known for his incredible creativity and soulful playing, Django’s influence spans decades—jazz icons like Duke Ellington and Jerry Garcia have lauded his genius.

To honor Django’s 115th birthday, Bainbridge is bringing together some of the region’s top musicians for a truly special concert. The evening will be anchored by Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers,’ a band celebrated for their ability to evoke both the romantic charm of a Parisian café and the infectious energy of a Romani campfire. Their repertoire includes swing standards, European folk melodies, and, of course, Django’s own iconic compositions.

Adding even more magic to the evening, the band will be joined by three remarkable guest soloists:

  • Tovi Newman on guitar

  • Toby Hanson on accordion

  • Stephen Vail on saxophone

Each will step into the spotlight to share their unique style, creating a collaborative, one-of-a-kind celebration of Django’s artistry.

Tickets for this event are pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $20. This ensures the evening is accessible to all, while still supporting the incredible artists who bring this music to life.

Pro Tip: Come early, soak in the lively atmosphere, and let the music transport you to another time and place. You won’t want to miss a single note!
