Summer on Bainbridge Island is something special. The long days stretch gently into golden evenings, the air smells of salt and pine, and a steady rhythm of community events brings neighbors, families, and friends together in celebration of art, nature, and shared joy. Whether you're a long-time islander or just visiting for the weekend, there's always something happening—a chance to slow down, connect, and try something new.

This week, Bainbridge offers up a trio of events that perfectly capture the island’s creative, inclusive, and lively spirit. There’s something for everyone: a daytime craft fest designed to spark kids’ imaginations, an outrageous evening of drag and bingo that promises side-splitting laughter, and a refined, garden-to-glass mixology class where you’ll shake up something fresh and flavorful. Together, these events showcase the diversity and vibrancy of Bainbridge’s cultural calendar, and remind us how lucky we are to live in a place that thrives on community-driven experiences.

Start the week off on a playful note with Sea Shell Fest at the Kitsap Regional Library. It's the kind of event kids will remember for years—a chance to dig into hands-on creativity using real sea shells, with all supplies provided. It’s free, it’s fun, and it encourages young minds to explore art inspired by the island’s natural beauty.

Then, shift gears for Drag Bingo Night, where glamour, comedy, and a bit of competition combine for an unforgettable evening. Hosted by Seattle’s legendary Shay Fox, this event is all about sparkle, sass, and serious fun. Expect sharp-tongued banter, high-energy performances, and plenty of chances to shout “Bingo!”—with wine and prizes to sweeten the deal.

Finally, wind down your week with something a little more botanical. BARN’s Botanical Summer Cocktails workshop invites you to learn the fundamentals of mixology from a true expert—Christopher Gronbeck, founder of The Barrel Thief and a seasoned educator in wine and spirits. Using herbs harvested from BARN’s own garden, you’ll craft and sample cocktails that are as beautiful as they are delicious. It’s an experience that blends nature, flavor, and a touch of elegance—perfect for anyone looking to impress at their next summer gathering.

Whether you’re bringing the kids for a creative afternoon, heading out for a bold night with friends, or diving into the finer points of cocktail artistry, this week’s lineup reflects the richness and warmth of life on Bainbridge Island. These events are more than just entertainment—they’re invitations to connect, to learn, and to celebrate the season with your community.

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Drag Bingo Night

Get ready for a night of fabulous fun as Drag Bingo Night lights up Bainbridge Island with dazzling performances, wild prizes, and nonstop laughter. This isn’t your grandma’s bingo—unless your grandma happens to wear six-inch heels and a rhinestone crown. Hosted by none other than Seattle’s sensational Shay Fox, this event is set to be one of the most entertaining nights of the summer.

Known for her quick wit, infectious energy, and glamorous stage presence, Shay Fox brings an irresistible blend of comedy, camp, and charisma to every performance. Whether she’s belting out a power ballad, tossing out sassy one-liners, or hyping up the crowd, Shay guarantees a show that’s equal parts bingo and Broadway. Her magnetic energy will keep the room roaring between rounds, and her flair for the dramatic makes even the most basic B-12 feel like a front-row ticket to Vegas.

Here’s how it works: For just $10, players get 9 bingo cards, with the chance to play 3 cards per round across 6 to 8 rounds of classic bingo fun. That’s plenty of chances to win—and yes, the prizes are worth shouting “Bingo!” for. From quirky gifts to local goodies, the surprises keep coming all night long. Whether you’re in it to win or just there for the show, you’ll walk away with memories (and maybe glitter) you won’t soon forget.

To sweeten the deal, wine will be available, giving guests the perfect pairing for their evening of sparkle and sass. Sip, dab, and giggle your way through a game night like no other. It's an experience tailor-made for friends’ night out, date night, or anyone looking to shake off the week with some fabulous energy.

Drag Bingo Night is more than an event—it’s a celebration of joy, inclusivity, and unapologetic self-expression. Whether you're a bingo buff or a drag show newbie, expect to feel welcomed, entertained, and thoroughly dazzled. Shay Fox knows how to command a room, and she’s bringing her full arsenal of charm, comedy, and couture to the Bainbridge stage.

If you're in the mood for outrageous fun, a few competitive thrills, and a whole lot of sparkle, Drag Bingo Night is calling your number.

Sea Shell Fest

Looking for a fun, creative activity for kids this week? Bainbridge Island’s Sea Shell Fest is the perfect way to spark imagination, connect with nature, and enjoy a hands-on afternoon filled with seaside charm. Held at the Bainbridge Branch of the Kitsap Regional Library, this free community event invites young artists to dive into the world of shell-based crafts—and bring home their own one-of-a-kind creations.

Sea Shell Fest is more than just a crafting session—it’s a celebration of curiosity and creativity, especially designed with kids in mind. Participants will explore a variety of activities that make use of real sea shells, turning simple natural objects into art. From decorating picture frames to making whimsical sea creature figurines, there’s no limit to what children can dream up. Whether your child is an experienced crafter or simply enjoys getting messy with glue and glitter, this event is open to all skill levels.

One of the best parts? All supplies are provided. Parents can relax while their little ones experiment with shapes, textures, and colors. The environment is low-pressure and playful, encouraging kids to try new things and enjoy the process of making something with their own hands. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for families to unplug and spend quality time together—no screens, no stress, just creative fun in a welcoming space.

Beyond the crafts, Sea Shell Fest offers a gentle nod to environmental awareness. Using sea shells as art materials helps introduce young minds to the beauty and importance of the ocean’s ecosystems. It’s a subtle but meaningful way to start conversations about nature, sustainability, and the many treasures that wash ashore.

Hosted in the heart of the community, the event also serves as a wonderful chance to meet other families, connect with local librarians, and experience the library as more than just a place for books—it’s a hub of learning, creativity, and joy.

Botanical Summer Cocktails

There’s no better way to toast the season than with a fresh, handcrafted cocktail—and BARN’s Botanical Summer Cocktails workshop offers the perfect blend of flavor, creativity, and hands-on fun. This immersive mixology experience invites participants to explore the art of cocktail design using ingredients grown just steps away in BARN’s own herb garden.

Led by expert mixologist Christopher Gronbeck, the workshop is more than just a tasting event—it's an opportunity to deepen your understanding of spirits, flavor balancing, and garden-to-glass craftsmanship. Christopher is the founder and former owner of The Barrel Thief Wine & Whiskey Bar in Seattle, and he brings over 15 years of experience teaching wine, spirits, and cocktail classes. With a strong foundation in science and environmental education—and roles as a judge in multiple wine and spirits competitions—he combines technical expertise with a passion for creativity. At BARN, he’s a beloved fixture in the Kitchen Arts Studio and is also active in Woodworking and Print & Book Arts.

In this interactive session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of cocktail design—from the structure of a perfect drink to the subtle ways herbs like basil, mint, thyme, and lavender can enhance flavor. Then it’s time to mix. With Christopher’s guidance, participants will create and sample a variety of cocktails that highlight the brightness and complexity of botanical ingredients. Whether it’s a citrusy thyme gin spritz or a lavender vodka infusion, every recipe offers a new opportunity to refine your palate and technique.

And yes—you’ll taste your creations along the way.

Beyond the glass, you’ll take home a collection of seasonal cocktail recipes along with tips and tricks to bring your own garden-inspired drinks to life. It’s an experience designed for everyone from casual sippers to home bartenders who want to up their game.

Held in BARN’s fully equipped kitchen, the setting is as vibrant and welcoming as the ingredients themselves. It’s a relaxed, community-driven space where curiosity is encouraged and creativity flows freely.

Please note: BARN’s kitchen regularly handles ingredients from the FDA’s major allergens list, including milk, eggs, shellfish, nuts, wheat, and soy. Guests with food allergies should contact organizers ahead of time.

With fresh herbs, expert instruction, and a few delightful sips, this summer workshop promises a truly refreshing experience.
