Summer is in full swing on Bainbridge Island, and this week brings a lineup of events that highlights the depth and diversity of our local arts and culture scene. Whether you're a true crime enthusiast, an art lover, or a live music devotee, there’s something happening on the island that’s sure to spark your interest—and maybe even surprise you.

From gripping author talks to open-air art markets and genre-defying musical performances, Bainbridge is buzzing with creative energy. These events not only celebrate storytelling and artistic expression but also highlight the talent and passion of our regional artists, writers, and performers. And the best part? Each of these experiences offers something completely unique, whether it’s a signed first edition, a handmade keepsake, or the chance to dance under the summer sky.

The weekend kicks off with a thrilling literary event: the inaugural West Sound Crime Con, presented by Liberty Bay Books and Bainbridge Performing Arts. Held at BPA on Friday, August 1, this special evening features bestselling true crime author Gregg Olsen in conversation with Andrea Dunlop, a fellow local author and acclaimed true crime podcaster. Olsen, known for his emotionally resonant and meticulously researched books, will be discussing his brand-new release, Out of the Woods. Each ticket includes a copy of the book, and both authors will be available for signings after the talk. If you love real-life mysteries and behind-the-scenes storytelling, this is a rare chance to hear from two experts in the genre.

The celebration continues all weekend with the return of BIMA’s Summer Art Market, taking place Saturday and Sunday, August 2–3, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The plaza outside the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will transform into a colorful marketplace, filled with booths featuring handmade goods by local artists and makers. Shoppers can browse unique finds—from jewelry and ceramics to paintings and textiles—while also enjoying live music and participating in hands-on art activities suitable for all ages. It’s a wonderful way to support local creatives, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the island’s vibrant arts community in action.

One of the standout moments of the weekend will be a free live concert by Küf Knotz & Christine Elise on Saturday at 3:00 PM. This dynamic musical duo blends hip-hop, soul, and classical harp into an electrifying sound that’s impossible to define—and even harder to resist. Their return to Bainbridge is a special one, following a creative residency at the Bloedel Reserve that inspired multimedia works and deepened their connection to the island. Their performance promises to be soulful, joyful, and energizing—perfect for dancing, relaxing, or simply soaking in the atmosphere.

Whether you’re visiting for the weekend or lucky enough to call Bainbridge home, this is the kind of week that reminds us why we love it here. Let art, music, and meaningful stories lead the way—there’s plenty to discover.

West Sound Crime Con promises an evening of gripping storytelling, literary insight, and real-life intrigue. Summer Art Market 2025

Looking for a fun, art-filled way to spend your weekend on Bainbridge Island? Look no further than the 2025 Summer Art Market at BIMA, happening the first weekend of August on the plaza outside Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA). This vibrant, family-friendly event transforms the museum’s outdoor space into a bustling open-air market, bursting with creativity, community spirit, and Pacific Northwest charm.

Running Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Summer Art Market showcases a curated lineup of local artisans and makers. Stroll through booths filled with handcrafted goods, original artwork, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and more—all lovingly made by talented regional artists. It’s the perfect place to find one-of-a-kind treasures or get a head start on early holiday shopping.

In addition to browsing the vendor booths, visitors can dive into Art in Action, BIMA’s hands-on activity zone that invites guests of all ages to tap into their inner artist. Whether you’re a seasoned creative or just want to have a little messy fun, these drop-in workshops offer a unique opportunity to engage with the arts in a playful and personal way.

Adding to the lively atmosphere is a lineup of live music both days, but Saturday’s highlight is a free performance by Küf Knotz & Christine Elise at 3:00 PM. This electrifying duo blends hip-hop, soul, and classical harp into a sound that defies genres and stirs the soul. Known for their high-energy, heart-forward performances, they bring a message of healing and unity that resonates deeply with diverse audiences.

Their return to Bainbridge is a welcome one. During a 2023 residency at the Bloedel Reserve, the pair found inspiration in the subtle rhythms of nature, creating both a meditative video piece titled Rotation and a behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling their process. Their past collaborations include performances with major artists like Wyclef Jean and Digable Planets, and Küf was named Best Rapper of 2022 by Philadelphia Magazine.

Pro tips: Bring a friend, come early, and plan to stay awhile. While purchases from vendors don’t qualify for the BIMA member discount (as sales go directly to the artists), your support directly fuels local creativity. Rain or shine, this weekend is all about art, music, and community—don’t miss it!

Küf Knotz & Christine Elise – Summer Concert

On Saturday, August 2 at 3:00 PM, Bainbridge Island welcomes back an unforgettable musical duo for a free live performance you won’t want to miss. Küf Knotz & Christine Elise will take the stage outside Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) during the Summer Art Market, bringing their boundary-breaking sound that blends hip-hop, soul, and classical harp in an experience that’s as moving as it is danceable.

This performance marks a meaningful return for the pair, who were Creative Residents at the Bloedel Reserve in 2023. During their time on the island, Küf and Christine immersed themselves in the natural beauty of the Northwest, drawing inspiration from the subtle patterns and "micro-movements" of nature—rippling water, fluttering wings, and the quiet, grounding rhythm of the landscape. The residency led to the creation of two striking video works: “Rotation”, a music video shot entirely on the Bloedel grounds, and a documentary that offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into their creative journey. Their time on Bainbridge left a lasting impact, and this concert is a joyful homecoming of sorts.

What sets this duo apart? Küf Knotz, named Best Rapper of 2022 by Philadelphia Magazine, brings lyrical depth and soulful beats shaped by the golden age of hip-hop and modern lo-fi stylings. Christine Elise, a classically trained harpist and vocalist, layers her ethereal playing over Küf’s grounded rhythms, creating a sound that’s both nostalgic and totally new. Together, they craft music that is vibrant, uplifting, and purpose-driven—built to connect people across genres, generations, and backgrounds.

Their combined musical résumé includes opening acts for Wyclef Jean, Digable Planets, Slick Rick, Say She She, and Afroman, as well as features on NPR Music and performances at festivals and venues across the country.

Whether you're a longtime fan or new to their music, this is a rare chance to see one of the most innovative duos in the indie music scene—live and for free. Bring a blanket, grab a bite from a local vendor, and get ready to move. Their shows are not just concerts—they’re an invitation to connect, reflect, and celebrate what music can do.

Don’t miss this powerful, poetic performance—Saturday at 3 PM on the BIMA plaza.
