It’s time to start planning this year’s garden and that is our focus for next week’s featured events. If gardening is not your thing, please scroll down to check out the Events Calendar below and View, Search or Filter to view all the other amazing events happening on Bainbridge Island, Whether you want to nurture beautiful flowering shrubs or grow plants you can eat, Bainbridge Island has experts who will teach you how to have a healthy flourishing garden and a rewarding growing experience. Bainbridge Gardens is celebrating 65 years in business and their classes provide weekend events where you can learn how to make it happen and importantly, you will meet like-minded people, all of whom will share their gardening experiences. On Saturday, at their Drought Tolerant and Low Maintenance Gardens event, you can learn how to buy the right type of plants to preserve water and maximize your productivity in the garden. Follow this on Sunday by learning how to graft fruit trees and you will take home your very own grafted Apple Tree! If your time is limited, why not sign up for the Bainbridge Library Veg Club classes which are on Zoom every 1st Tuesday through October and impress your family and friends with home-grown healthy vegetables.

Drought-Tolerant Gems for the Low Maintenance Garden at Bainbridge Gardens
Set up your garden for success by choosing woody plants that require little water. Attractive and tough, these cultivars can create beauty and handle the summer heat. Participants will receive 20% off plant purchases, valid only on the day of class. Class by Jenni McCain, CPH.
In 2018, Bainbridge Gardens celebrated its 60th year in business on Bainbridge Island. Junkoh and Chris Harui started Town and Country Florist in a 900 sqft space next to Town and Country Market in Winslow in 1958. Bainbridge Gardens is a family-owned garden center located on a historic site on beautiful Bainbridge Island. The six-acre nursery is well-stocked with large trees, native plants, unusual varieties of shrubs, bonsai, seasonal color, pots and garden art. They also have one of the best selections of houseplants in the area. With plenty of parking and an extensive gift shop, Bainbridge Gardens is a popular spot for Islanders and out-of-town guests.

Graft an Apple Tree at Bainbridge Gardens
Bainbridge Bardens welcome the Bainbridge Island Fruit Club (BIFC) for a workshop on grafting fruit trees. Participants will learn useful techniques for successfully grafting apple, pear, and stone fruit trees. Following the presentation, BIFC President Darren Murphy and other Bainbridge Island Fruit Club members will assist participants in grafting their own semi-dwarf apple tree to take home for planting!

Veg Club: Gardening Classes at the Library
Bainbridge Island Library hosts a series of Gardening Classes focused on Vegetables which will help make your food garden great. This series of classes covers everything from beginner basics to specialized local resources for experienced growers.
In early April you will learn to create & maintain healthy soil and improve success with specific spring crops.
You will learn to save space with adaptable trellises for everything from peas to tomatoes and set up simple, inexpensive lights to grow your own vegetable starts while outwitting slugs and promoting helpful soil life.
