As spring reaches full bloom and Bainbridge Island shakes off the last traces of winter, May brings with it a vibrant lineup of events that reflect the island’s creative spirit, community warmth, and love of fun. Whether you’re a local looking to liven up your routine or a visitor seeking a unique way to experience the island, this month offers something for everyone—from competitive pinball to hands-on woodworking and side-splitting stand-up comedy.

What makes Bainbridge so special is its ability to balance laid-back charm with a surprisingly diverse arts and events scene. Tucked between towering evergreens and surrounded by Puget Sound’s stunning views, the island may be small, but it certainly doesn’t lack in personality. May is one of the best times to explore everything Bainbridge has to offer. With longer daylight hours and milder weather, the island comes alive with opportunities to gather, connect, and try something new.

This month, we’re spotlighting three events that capture the island’s character and energy in very different but equally enjoyable ways.

First, if you're in the mood for midweek fun, the Bainbridge Wednesday Stern Army Pinball Tournament at Bainbridge Brewing Taproom is a perfect excuse to channel your inner arcade ace. This friendly weekly gathering turns old-school pinball into a community event, welcoming players of all experience levels for a night of competition, laughter, and local brews.

Then, get creative with a hands-on experience at Eleven Winery’s Charcuterie Board Woodworking Workshop. With guidance from Portland-based woodworker Abby Ruston, you'll craft your very own live-edge walnut board while sipping wine in one of Bainbridge’s most welcoming venues. It’s an ideal way to slow down, make something meaningful, and walk away with a handcrafted keepsake.

And for those in need of a good laugh, don’t miss Taylor Williamson’s stand-up show at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Best known for his breakout performance on America’s Got Talent, Taylor brings a sharp, offbeat comedy style that mixes charm, awkwardness, and laugh-out-loud observations. Paired with local favorite Dan Rosenberg as emcee, this promises to be one of the most memorable comedy nights the island has seen in a while.

These events highlight the diversity of experiences that Bainbridge Island offers—creative, competitive, and comically offbeat—and they’re a great reminder of how the island brings people together in surprising and joyful ways. Whether you're attending solo, with friends, or bringing the whole family along, there's no shortage of things to discover.

So mark your calendar, grab your tickets (and maybe some quarters), and get ready to enjoy May on Bainbridge Island like never before.

Bainbridge Wednesday Stern Army Pinball Tournament

If you're looking for something uniquely fun to do on Bainbridge Island this month, make your way to the Bainbridge Brewing Taproom every Wednesday evening for the Bainbridge Wednesday Stern Army Pinball Tournament. Held weekly from 6:15 to 9:30 PM, this lively local event is a great way to add some nostalgic excitement to your midweek plans.

Hosted at the Bainbridge Brewing Taproom, located at 9415 Coppertop Loop NE, the tournament welcomes pinball enthusiasts of all skill levels—from seasoned flipper wizards to curious first-timers. Sign-ups kick off at 6:15 PM with tournament play beginning promptly at 6:30 PM. There’s a $5 entry fee, and every penny goes into the prize pool for the night’s winners. Just remember to bring a roll of quarters—games are coin-operated, keeping the experience wonderfully retro.

The tournament follows the official rules set by the International Flipper Pinball Association (IFPA), and participants have the opportunity to earn IFPA points, making it a real draw for competitive players. The format is a 3-strike, head-to-head knockout, which means everyone gets several chances to stay in the game before being eliminated. Even if you’re knocked out early, you’re guaranteed plenty of playtime and pinball camaraderie.

One of the best parts? The vibe is welcoming and inclusive. Whether you're a die-hard competitor or have never played pinball before, the tournament is designed to be friendly and approachable. Newcomers are encouraged to join in the fun and experience the thrill of the silver ball in action.

And it’s not just for grown-ups. The Bainbridge Brewing Taproom is an all-ages venue, so families are welcome to come out, cheer each other on, and enjoy the electric atmosphere. Pair the tournament with one of the taproom’s locally brewed craft beers (or a soda for the kids), and you’ve got a winning night out.

Whether you're chasing IFPA points or just want to flip out and have fun, the Bainbridge Wednesday Stern Army Pinball Tournament is a delightful community event you won’t want to miss.

Charcuterie Board Woodworking Workshop

Looking to tap into your creative side while enjoying a glass of wine? Head to Eleven Winery on Bainbridge Island this month for a truly unique and hands-on experience—the Charcuterie Board Woodworking Workshop, taking place on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

This intimate, two-hour workshop invites participants to transform a sustainably sourced, live-edge piece of Oregon Black Walnut into a stunning, one-of-a-kind charcuterie board. Whether you're a woodworking novice or have a few projects under your belt, this event is designed to be both educational and accessible. All tools, supplies, and finishing oil are provided—just bring your curiosity and a readiness to get creative.

Leading the workshop is Abby Ruston, a Portland-based contemporary woodworker known for her thoughtful incorporation of traditional Japanese aesthetics such as Kintsugi, Wabi Sabi, and Shou Sugi Ban. Abby’s artistic philosophy embraces imperfection, nature, and the beauty of materials in their rawest forms. She’ll be there to guide participants through each step of the process, from shaping and sanding to finishing the board, while also sharing insights into her craft.

Set in the cozy and stylish surroundings of Eleven Winery, this workshop is more than just a DIY class—it’s a relaxing and inspiring evening out. Sip on one of Eleven’s acclaimed wines as you work, mingle with fellow attendees, and walk away with not only a beautiful handmade board, but also a deeper appreciation for woodworking and natural design.

The setting is ideal for couples, friends, or solo adventurers looking to try something new. And since the winery is well known for its friendly atmosphere and quality pours, you can expect a warm, welcoming vibe to go along with your evening of craftsmanship.

Whether you’re making the board as a gift, a keepsake, or the newest centerpiece of your hosting collection, this workshop is a perfect blend of creativity, sustainability, and style. Taylor Williamson Stand-Up

Get ready for an evening of brilliantly awkward and endlessly entertaining comedy as Taylor Williamson takes the stage at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Known for his dry wit, sharp timing, and quirky charm, Taylor is bringing his unique comedic style to Bainbridge Island for a night that promises to be both hilarious and refreshingly human.

You may recognize Taylor from his memorable run as the runner-up on America’s Got Talent, where he won over audiences nationwide with his understated delivery and offbeat take on everyday life. Since then, he’s continued to build a devoted fanbase through appearances on AGT: All Stars, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Last Comic Standing, Last Call with Carson Daly, and more. His latest stand-up special, Live at the Comedy Store, is streaming free on YouTube, showcasing the same disarmingly funny style that will be on full display at the BPA show.

Taylor’s brand of comedy is all about finding the ridiculous in the routine. With a disarming smile and a rhythm that’s both unexpected and masterful, he makes audiences laugh at things they didn’t even realize were funny. Whether he’s riffing on personal quirks or skewering social norms, every set feels like a personal conversation with a hilariously candid friend.

Adding local flavor to the evening is Dan Rosenberg, serving as emcee. Known for his own clever and unpretentious humor, Dan will keep the energy flowing between acts and help create a night of seamless, unfiltered comedy.

This isn’t a flashy, pyrotechnics-filled production—it’s stand-up in its purest form: a microphone, a spotlight, and a comedian who knows exactly how to work both. And with Taylor’s growing popularity, tickets are expected to sell out fast, so don’t wait to reserve your seat.

If you’re in the mood to laugh until your cheeks hurt—and maybe feel a little bit delightfully awkward while doing it—Taylor Williamson’s performance at BPA is a must-see event this May on Bainbridge Island. Don’t miss your chance to catch a comedy pro at the top of his game, right in your own backyard.
