Looking for something fresh to do on Bainbridge Island this week? Whether you're a local or just visiting, there's no shortage of unique events that celebrate creativity, community, and the beautiful setting we get to call home. As the days grow longer and the summer spirit starts to stir, now is the perfect time to step outside your usual routine and try something new. From hands-on art sessions and intimate live music to energizing outdoor activities, Bainbridge Island offers a little bit of everything for those who love to engage with their surroundings—and each other.

This week, we’re spotlighting three standout events that capture the eclectic and welcoming spirit of the island. Whether you’re an artist, a music lover, a weekend runner, or just someone looking for a good excuse to get out of the house, these happenings are sure to spark your interest. First up is the Life Drawing Studio at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA), a weekly creative gathering where artists of all skill levels can hone their technique with live models in a relaxed, no-pressure environment. It’s the kind of event that welcomes absolute beginners and seasoned illustrators alike—and gives you the rare opportunity to slow down, tune in, and focus on the fundamentals of drawing from life.

If music is more your thing, you won’t want to miss Warren Dunes live in concert at BIMA. This local indie band, led by the magnetic Julia Massey, has been making waves across the Pacific Northwest with their bright, beachy take on indie rock—a sound they've dubbed “PNW Tropicalia.” With soaring vocals, layered synths, and an infectious energy that fills the room, Warren Dunes delivers a feel-good musical experience that’s perfect for a Friday night out. Whether you're already a fan or just curious to hear something new, this concert promises a mix of artistry, heart, and undeniable groove.

And if you're looking to start your weekend on a healthy, community-focused note, check out the Fort Ward parkrun, a free, weekly 5K open to everyone. Whether you want to walk, jog, run, volunteer, or just cheer people on, this event is all about inclusivity and connection. No fancy gear or race-day nerves—just a friendly group of folks gathering every Saturday morning to move their bodies and enjoy the trails. It's the perfect excuse to get some fresh air, meet new people, and maybe even kick off a new wellness habit.

No matter what your week looks like, these events offer an easy, accessible way to try something different and make meaningful connections along the way. So grab your sketchbook, your running shoes, or your dancing spirit—Bainbridge Island is buzzing with activity, and you're invited to be part of it.Featured Events:

Life Drawing Studio

Looking for a midweek creativity boost? Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just curious about sketching from life, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) has the perfect Tuesday evening for you. The Life Drawing Studio series is a welcoming, relaxed space where artists of all skill levels can come together to sharpen their skills, try new techniques, and simply enjoy the process of drawing.

Held every Tuesday evening (except for third Tuesdays), the Life Drawing Studio runs from 6:00 to 8:30 PM in BIMA’s second-floor classroom. You’ll enter through the side door marked 100 Ravine Lane—an after-hours entrance reserved for these evening sessions. Each week, a rotating cast of unclothed art models strikes a mix of quick gesture poses and longer timed setups, giving participants the chance to experiment with proportions, motion, form, and lighting.

While there’s no formal instruction, the atmosphere is friendly and focused, and you're encouraged to explore your own creative approach. From graphite to charcoal, pastels to ink—bring whatever medium inspires you most. Easels, drawing boards, and tabletop surfaces are provided, but you'll need to bring your own drawing materials.

The sessions are facilitated by Jenna d’Anna, BIMA’s Senior Manager of Museum Education & Community Engagement, who helps maintain the warm, welcoming environment that keeps artists coming back week after week. Whether you’re looking to refine your technique or just want a peaceful way to unwind after work, the Life Drawing Studio offers a consistent and inspiring creative outlet.

Can’t make it every week? No problem. The sessions are drop-in friendly, with a $20 fee per evening—so you can pop in whenever your schedule allows. Just keep in mind there’s no session on the third Tuesday of each month. Instead, you’re invited to Drink & Draw at the Bainbridge Brewing Alehouse on Thursdays during those weeks—a looser, more social spin on the drawing experience.

The current Life Drawing Studio series runs through June 3, 2025, so there’s still plenty of time to grab your sketchbook and join in. Whether you’re building a portfolio, exploring a new hobby, or just looking for a little artistic inspiration, this is one Bainbridge Island event that’s well worth penciling in.

Warren Dunes in Concert

Ready for a night of music that feels like sunshine breaking through the Pacific Northwest clouds? Mark your calendar for Friday, May 30, when Seattle band Warren Dunes brings their vibrant, genre-blending sound to the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. From 7:00 to 9:00 PM, you’ll be treated to a live concert that’s equal parts indie rock, beach vibes, and Northwest soul.

Warren Dunes isn’t your typical rock band. Led by the endlessly talented Julia Massey on vocals and dual keyboards, their music blends shimmering guitar riffs with dreamy synths and powerhouse percussion. Backed by her husband Jared Cortese on guitar and his brother Dominic Cortese on drums, Massey’s crystalline voice floats effortlessly above the band’s energetic and emotional arrangements.

The band’s sound—often described as “PNW Tropicalia”—draws inspiration from the cool waters and gray beaches of the Salish Sea. It’s warm and bright but grounded in that distinct Pacific Northwest mood: hopeful, heartfelt, and a little bit wild. Their debut album, Get Well Soon, earned them well-deserved airplay on college radio stations across the country and helped them land a coveted in-studio performance at KEXP, Seattle’s iconic indie radio station.

In 2024, Warren Dunes lit up stages across the region, playing major festivals like Treefort, Capitol Hill Block Party, and Bumbershoot. Their follow-up album, Aquamarine, struck a chord with fans and critics alike—earning a spot in KEXP’s Top 50 Listener Picks of 2024.

BIMA’s concert series is known for hosting intimate, high-quality performances in a stunning art-filled setting, and this show will be no exception. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Warren Dunes, their blend of infectious rhythms and dreamy melodies will have you swaying, smiling, and maybe even dancing in your seat.

So, if you’re looking for a fun, feel-good way to kick off your weekend, don’t miss Warren Dunes in concert at BIMA on May 30. Come for the music, stay for the vibe—it’s going to be a night to remember.

Fort Ward Parkrun

Looking for a fun, low-pressure way to get moving and connect with your community? Whether you're a seasoned runner, casual jogger, or just in the mood for a brisk morning walk, the Fort Ward parkrun is the perfect way to kick off your Saturday. Best of all? It’s completely free—just bring your energy and a scannable barcode.

Happening every Saturday at 9:00 AM, the Fort Ward parkrun is a welcoming weekly 5K held on the beautiful Fort Ward Trail on Bainbridge Island. You’ll start from the upper parking lot at Fort Ward Hill Road NE and Belfair Avenue NE, and enjoy a scenic out-and-back course surrounded by trees and the crisp morning air.

This isn’t a race in the traditional sense. There are no medals or podiums—just community, movement, and fresh air. Participants range from walkers and families with strollers to competitive runners and first-timers just looking to get outside. There’s no pressure on pace, and no such thing as “too slow.” The only thing that matters is showing up and doing it your way.

New to parkrun? All you need to do is register once on the parkrun website and bring a scannable copy of your personal barcode each time you attend. That barcode is what tracks your time and progress—so don’t forget it, or your run won’t be officially recorded.

Volunteers help keep things running smoothly, and if you're not up for participating one week, consider cheering folks on or lending a hand with setup or timing. It’s a great way to meet people and stay involved.

If you’re ready for a fresh-air fitness habit, the Fort Ward parkrun is as good as it gets. It’s simple, social, and stress-free—and the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a post-run coffee afterwards.

So lace up your shoes, grab your barcode, and head to Fort Ward this Saturday. Whether you're aiming for a personal best or just out to enjoy the view, you'll be in great company.
