Refract at BARN

Bainbridge Island is hosting another exciting creative event, and this one is all about the art of glass! Bainbridge BARN’s Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience is coming up, offering a unique opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of glassmaking. Whether you're an artist, a fan of handcrafted art, or just curious about how glass transforms from a molten state into beautiful objects, this event is worth exploring. Here’s what you can expect from Refract at BARN.

Refract is a multi-day glass art festival held annually in the Seattle area, and BARN is a part of this larger celebration. BARN, known for its vibrant community of artisans and creative spaces, will be opening its doors to showcase glass artistry in action. The event is designed for anyone who wants to experience the incredible craftsmanship behind glass art, from blown glass to stained glass and beyond. You’ll have the chance to see firsthand how this intricate process works, and gain insight into the skill and creativity that goes into every piece.

At this event, you'll find live demonstrations where experienced glass artists will work with molten glass, shaping it with tools and fire into stunning forms right before your eyes. These demonstrations are not just mesmerizing to watch but also incredibly educational. You’ll see the artists use a variety of techniques to manipulate glass, learning how they create different textures, colors, and shapes in their work.

For those who want to get even more hands-on, BARN is also offering workshops during Refract. These workshops are tailored to a range of skill levels, from beginners to more experienced artists, and they provide an opportunity to work with glass under the guidance of professionals. Whether you want to try your hand at glassblowing, mosaic work, or another glass-related technique, these classes allow you to create your own piece of art to take home. The workshops fill up quickly, so early registration is recommended if you’re eager to participate.

In addition to the live demos and workshops, Refract at BARN will also feature an exhibition of glass art. This exhibition will showcase both local and regional glass artists, giving you a chance to admire a diverse range of glasswork, from functional pieces like vases and bowls to more abstract and artistic sculptures. It’s a great opportunity to see the many ways glass can be used to create art and to perhaps find a piece to add to your collection.

Whether you’re there to observe, participate, or just soak in the creative energy, Refract at BARN promises to be an inspiring event. Be sure to mark your calendar, and come with an open mind and a readiness to explore the captivating world of glass art!
