In the same way that the cooling of the September air also smells like a new backpack and fresh pencils, June feels like an all out celebration of high fives, accomplishments and recognition.
I feel a bit like a kiddo myself this year as I’ve stepped into a couple of areas of personal development that I’m super proud of.
Bitty Ballet

I am in year two of teaching Intro to ballet at Bainbridge Dance Center. It’s been one of the greatest joys for me over the last couple years. Many folks from my current life don’t know that in a past life I was pretty involved in theater and dance and have spent many hours in the wings watching people perform. I was never a gifted performer myself but I am a great coach and an enthusiastic advocate. I’m so over the moon with watching these little people evolve. We’re starting performances this week and I get such a sense of joy to see how these little people learn their bodies.
Dana and Deirdre's Musical Adventure
Three years ago I started on an adventure to learn the violin. I had always wanted to learn what I would now argue is a near impossible instrument of wizardry and torture. Do y’all know there aren’t frets? Let that sit with you for a moment… where do your fingers go…. So now I spend a couple hours a week trying to master an instrument that I’m truly super mediocre at. A friend of mine wondered gently why I work so hard at something that will be difficult to master in my lifetime but all I can think of is that it’s fun to learn things as an adult and I’m a glutton for punishment. What started with something fun to do with Deirdre has become its own little beast. Here is Deirdre and I last week. (I am accompanying her piece.). Someday I’ll be brave enough to share my solo piece which I would put under the classification of go big AND go home.
Painted Driveways for Class of 2023
One of my favorite little traditions on Bainbridge is evident everywhere! The seniors paint the end of their driveway for their graduating friends with bold white paint. You wake up the week of graduation to the most lovely graffiti everywhere! Here is my lovely neighbor’s house. Happy graduation class of 2023!
