November 2023 Top 3

The fall vibes are here!!! I’m someone who leans toward gratitude naturally—especially for the good people around me—clients, friends, family. But even with the best intentions, it's nice to have a reminder of the why in the life we are leading.

I’ve had a few things re-emerge on my path lately that I’d love to share. I am guessing these aren’t anything new to you either, but perhaps a subtle reminder of the good that is right now and what we are striving for.

The Four Agreements By Don Miguel Ruiz

I first bought this book in 2004 and have returned to it time and again. It came up most recently for me when someone was talking about their relationship with their children. I had been thinking about this primarily as a code of conduct for my work but have been reflecting these past couple weeks about how these operate with the family structure.

Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements are:

  1. Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using words to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word to offer love, never use it to cause fear or pain in another or yourself..

  2. Don't Take Anything Personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a result of thrown dream or perception of their rules. We all make rules about how things should be, but when you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

  3. Don't Make Assumptions

Find the quiet courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.

  4. Always Do Your Best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Companion reading includes the Mastery of Love, and the Voice of Knowledge.

This is an oldie but a goodie…..I remember when a friend of Matt’s first took 20 minutes to describe how wonderful 5 minute bread was….It was JUST. THAT. SIMPLE. Joking aside, I fully support my hubbie’s baking habit even if these hips don’t lie.*

Mountain Day

This one is courtesy of the great and good, Kara Gibson. Kara and I worked together once upon a time and have been in a professional mastermind for the last several years. I have a distinct memory of doing a 1:1 with Kara on a beautiful fall day and she declared it was Mountain Day, and that we needed to get outside. I’m not one to argue but it was my first exposure to the tradition.

History:

Mountain Day dates back to at least 1838, when the students of Mount Holyoke College headed off to Mount Holyoke. Smith College declared its Mountain Day in 1877. Juniata College established its Mountain Day in 1896, and Williams College students have been climbing Mount Greylock, the highest mountain in Massachusetts, to celebrate Mountain Day since the 1800s.[4]   - Wikipedia

Kara is a graduate of Smith and held firm to this tradition and the way to celebrate one of the last bluebird days of fall with gratitude and enthusiasm.

Looking ahead to the forecast, I think there are some excellent opportunities for Mountain Day this week!

Read more about Kara here. She’s literally the best and I’m so lucky to have her in my life.

Home - Exit Equity

I’d love to hear what items are filling you with joy this month!!

*I went to the Lauryn Hill and Fugees 25 year reunion concert last week— which was a blast.. but in doing some reading about where the group has been been say the 25 years or so… I learned that the song Hips Don’t Lie started with Wyclef Jean and the Fugees and was later spun out in a collaboration with Shakira when the group disbanded. Huh? Right?!
