BPA Theatre School Presents Disney's "Newsies Jr."

Get ready for an exciting ride with the BPA Theatre School's production of Disney’s Newsies Jr. on their Mainstage! This musical is inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, where a bunch of young newsboys stood up against big newspaper tycoons like Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. It tells the story of Jack Kelly and his crew of newsies fighting for fair treatment. With catchy songs, energetic dance numbers, and a heartwarming plot, Newsies Jr. promises to be a blast for everyone. Back in 1899, these newsboys took to the streets of New York City to protest. They managed to shut down Pulitzer’s New York World and Hearst’s New York Journal for a while, causing a big stir. The strike lasted about two weeks and really made a dent—Pulitzer’s paper went from selling 360,000 copies a day to just 125,000. Although they didn’t lower the price of papers, the strike did force the big shots to offer better deals to the newsboys, giving them more money for their hard work. This historic event not only shook up the newspaper business but also made its mark on pop culture. It inspired the 1992 movie musical, Newsies, which later hit Broadway in 2012 and wowed audiences with its tale of guts and glory. Now, at BPA Theatre School, their talented students are taking over Hodges Hall to bring Disney’s Newsies Jr. to life. Get ready to see these young performers rock the stage, channeling the bravery and grit of those newsboys who fought for what’s right. Join for a show that’s just as relevant today as it was back then—a story about sticking together. Through the heartfelt performances of their actors, Disney’s Newsies Jr. dives into themes of fairness and empowerment, striking a chord with audiences of all ages. This is your chance to experience the magic of live theater and cheer on the amazing young stars. Grab your tickets now and get ready for an evening packed with entertainment. Disney’s Newsies Jr. is sure to inspire, uplift, and leave you rooting for these brave young heroes who remind us all about the power of determination and unity. Don’t miss out!
