Founders Tournament Beginners Clinic
Head down to Battle Point for an awesome FREE pickleball clinic hosted by seasoned Bainbridge Island pickleballers. Plus, stick around for a fascinating session with Scott Stover who'll dive into the game's history. And don’t worry about gear – it’s all provided! Now, let's take a trip down memory lane with pickleball. Back in the summer after a round of golf, Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington State, and Bill Bell, a successful businessman, found themselves at Pritchard’s home on Bainbridge Island, WA. They had their families with them, all looking for something to do. Lucky for them, there was an old badminton court on the property. But when they couldn’t find a full set of badminton gear, they improvised. Ping-pong paddles and a plastic ball with holes became their equipment of choice. At first, they set the net at the height for badminton, about 60 inches, and volleyed the ball back and forth. As the day went on, they discovered that the ball bounced really well on the asphalt surface. So, they decided to lower the net to 36 inches. The following weekend, they introduced their buddy Barney McCallum to the game at Pritchard’s place. Together, the three guys started to establish some rules, drawing heavily from badminton. Their goal was simple: create a game that everyone in the family could enjoy playing together. And that’s how pickleball was born – from a fun day of improvisation and creativity right here on Bainbridge Island. Now, years later, it’s become a beloved sport played all over the world. Join experienced Bainbridge Island pickleballers at Battle Point for a laid-back afternoon of learning and fun. It’s a great opportunity to pick up some skills from local experts and gain a deeper appreciation for the history behind this unique sport.
