Fort Ward Parkrun

Lace up our sneakers for the weekly 5k community event at Fort Ward Park on Bainbridge Island. It's not just any run—it's a gathering of folks from all walks of life, coming together for some fun, fitness, and a whole lot of community spirit. First off, it's free, however you do have to register to get a number of your own. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or someone who's never run a mile, everyone is welcome.

If you’ve ever visited For Ward Park, you’ll instantly notice the perfect scenery: lush greens, towering trees, glimpses of Puget Sound in the distance. It's like running through a postcard of the Pacific Northwest, with fresh air and nature all around you. Open to all, you'll find families pushing strollers, friends chatting as they trot along, and maybe even a furry friend or two tagging along for the jog. It's a chance to connect with your community, meet new people, and cheer each other on as you tackle those 3.1 miles together.

There are other ways to get involved if running isn’t for you. You can volunteer to help set up the course, hand out water at the stations, or cheer from the sidelines. Every role is important and appreciated, whether you're pounding the pavement or lending a hand behind the scenes. And let's not forget the post-run. After crossing the finish line (or cheering others across), there's often a little celebration. Maybe it's a gathering at a local café for coffee and pastries, or perhaps a picnic in the park with friends and fellow participants. It's a chance to swap stories, share laughs, and bask in the sense of accomplishment that comes with completing the 5k.

You don’t have to be a regular to reap the benefits. Every Saturday at 9am is a chance to challenge yourself, find community, and appreciate nature.

Cost, tickets and logistics:

  • Fort Ward Park, 2241 Pleasant Beach Dr NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

One Two Kai Food Truck

Pizza and wine? Name a more perfect combination. I’ll wait.

One Two Kai's food truck offers an exceptional sourdough pizza experience. Their sourdough crust is lightly tangy, perfectly chewy, and has crispy edges, making it the star of the show. They offer a range of inventive toppings, from the simplicity of a classic Margherita with tomato, mozzarella, and basil to more adventurous combinations like caramelized onions, goat cheese, and a balsamic drizzle. Each slice is a adventure waiting for you.

Eleven Winery complements this pizza perfectly with their quality wines. Their selection includes a crisp Sauvignon Blanc with citrusy notes that cut through the richness of the cheese, and a smooth Cabernet Sauvignon that pairs beautifully with the bold flavors of a meaty pizza. The acidity of the wine balances the richness of the pizza, enhancing each ingredient.

Both One Two Kai and Eleven Winery are experts about their craft, and this dedication is evident in every slice of pizza and every sip of wine. So what are you waiting for? Mark this event on your calendar for Sunday, June 23, 12-6pm and get yourself a well-deserved slice and glass!
