As the days grow longer and summer draws near, Bainbridge Island is buzzing with energy, creativity, and connection. This vibrant, close-knit community—just a short ferry ride from Seattle—has a way of turning ordinary moments into memorable experiences, especially during the warmer months. Whether you’re a local looking for new ways to enjoy your week or a visitor eager to explore the island’s charm, this week’s calendar offers something for everyone. From peaceful walks through serene natural landscapes to high-energy live music and hands-on art workshops paired with wine, Bainbridge has no shortage of ways to inspire and delight.
One of the island’s greatest strengths is its ability to blend art, nature, and community into everyday life. It’s a place where creative expression is valued, and where local businesses and organizations go out of their way to create meaningful experiences. Whether it’s in a forest, a vineyard, or a tasting room filled with music, you’re never far from something that will stir your senses and leave you feeling more connected—both to the island and to the people who make it so special.
This week, three standout events offer a perfect snapshot of what makes Bainbridge so unique. First, Bloedel Reserve invites everyone to enjoy its lush gardens and wooded trails during its monthly Welcome Wednesday—a pay-what-you-wish day designed to make the healing power of nature available to all. It’s a peaceful, reflective experience that showcases the Reserve’s deep commitment to inclusivity and environmental stewardship.
Next, if you’re craving something more lively and social, head over to Eleven Winery on Friday night for Corks & Canvas: California Poppies. This fun, no-pressure painting workshop is perfect for unleashing your inner artist while sipping wine in a laid-back atmosphere. It’s an ideal outing for friends, couples, or anyone looking to unwind with a paintbrush in one hand and a glass of red in the other.
Then on Sunday, Eleven Winery keeps the energy going with a live performance by Rafael Tranquilino, one of the Pacific Northwest’s hottest guitarists. Known for his fiery blend of blues, rock, and funk, Rafael’s music brings passion and soul to every performance—and the winery’s cozy, open setting is the perfect place to enjoy his sound.
Together, these three events reflect the essence of Bainbridge Island: thoughtful, artistic, welcoming, and always a little magical. So whether you’re looking to reset, get inspired, or just have some fun, mark your calendar—you won’t want to miss what Bainbridge has in store this week.

Welcome Wednesday
This week, Bainbridge Island locals and visitors alike are invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy the lush beauty of Bloedel Reserve during Welcome Wednesday, a monthly tradition that makes nature accessible to all. Held on the first Wednesday of each month, Welcome Wednesday is a pay-what-you-wish community day—an opportunity to explore one of the island’s most treasured green spaces, no matter your budget.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Reserve or a first-time visitor, there’s something restorative about wandering its meandering trails and carefully cultivated gardens. From moss-draped woods to serene ponds and expansive lawns, every corner of Bloedel invites calm, reflection, and connection. And since the landscape changes with the seasons, each visit offers something new—a vibrant bloom, a fiery canopy of autumn leaves, or the quiet hush of a winter woodland.
Welcome Wednesday is more than just a day at the park; it’s an open door to the mission and spirit of Bloedel Reserve. By offering admission on a donation basis, the Reserve ensures that the experience of nature is truly for everyone. Visitors are encouraged to reserve timed-entry tickets online in advance to ensure smooth entry and to help staff manage the flow of guests, especially during busy hours. While the event is donation-based, guests are welcome to contribute any amount as part of their reservation—every dollar supports the Reserve’s efforts to maintain its gardens, preserve natural habitats, and offer educational programs to the community.
What makes Welcome Wednesday special isn’t just the stunning scenery—it’s the feeling of shared experience. You’ll likely encounter fellow islanders and visitors quietly strolling the paths, taking photos, reading on a bench, or simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you come alone for a mindful walk or bring family and friends for a relaxed outing, the Reserve offers a gentle pause from the rush of daily life.
So, mark your calendar for this Wednesday and don’t miss the chance to experience Bloedel Reserve in a welcoming, inclusive way. Reserve your spot online, bring your curiosity (and maybe a journal or camera), and let the natural beauty of Bainbridge Island work its magic.

Live music at the Winery: Rafael Tranquilino
If your ideal Sunday includes a glass of wine, good company, and soul-stirring live music, then make your way to Eleven Winery on Sunday, June 8, for an afternoon with acclaimed guitarist and frontman Rafael Tranquilino. Performing from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, Tranquilino will bring his signature blend of rock, blues, and funk to Bainbridge Island—turning an ordinary Sunday into something unforgettable.
A staple of the Pacific Northwest music scene, Rafael Tranquilino is best known as the fiery frontman of The Rafael Tranquilino Band, a high-energy power trio that combines searing guitar riffs, gritty vocals, and a uniquely modern take on classic blues rock. His performances are known for their emotional depth, technical brilliance, and an irresistible groove that gets audiences moving.
Born in Mexico City, Rafael's musical journey started early—first on piano at age five, and soon after on guitar, bass, and drums. He honed his craft through formal studies at prestigious music schools in Mexico and extensive live performance experience, including festivals and venues like the International Festival Cervantino and The Hard Rock Café in Mexico. Since moving to the U.S. in 2006, he’s toured extensively, both with The Randy Oxford Band and under his own name, earning accolades along the way, including Best Blues Band of 2012 from The Tacoma Weekly.
Expect a dynamic set that moves effortlessly from electrified blues to classic rock, with flashes of Latin flair and funk thrown in. His playing style nods to legends like Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and B.B. King, while still feeling fresh and personal. Whether he's sliding into a Delta-style blues lick or launching into a high-energy solo, Rafael's passion for music is front and center.
The music kicks off at 2 PM, but Eleven Winery opens at noon—so you’re encouraged to come early, grab a seat, and enjoy a flight or glass of their excellent local wines. The relaxed, friendly setting is perfect for soaking in the sound and scenery. Bring a friend, bring some snacks (outside food is welcome), and settle in for a Sunday afternoon that’s equal parts soulful and celebratory.
Admission is free, and no tickets are required—just show up, sip, and enjoy the show.
