When the calendar flips to July, Bainbridge Island comes alive with a spirit that’s uniquely its own — equal parts small-town charm, community pride, and patriotic celebration. The days surrounding the Fourth of July are a highlight of summer here, with downtown Winslow transforming into a lively stage for music, movement, and meaningful connection. Whether you're a lifelong islander or simply soaking in the season as a visitor, this week promises a lineup of events that speak to the heart of what makes Bainbridge so special.
For decades, Bainbridge Island has honored the Fourth of July not just as a day, but as a multi-day celebration of togetherness. From high-energy street parties to peaceful morning runs and grand parades, each event is an invitation to come outside, connect with neighbors, and revel in the joy of shared experience. And this year’s lineup delivers — with something for every age, interest, and energy level.
It all begins on the evening of Thursday, July 3, when the annual Winslow Way Street Dance takes over downtown. This event is a favorite for good reason: with live bands, a high-energy DJ, a dedicated Kid’s Zone, and a Beer & Wine Garden, it’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday festivities. The Street Dance is more than just a party — it’s a community celebration where families, teens, couples, and kids all find their groove under the summer sky.
The next morning, July 4th dawns bright and early with the Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS) Fun Run, a tradition now over 40 years strong. This cherished community race offers participants a chance to start their day with movement and meaning — all while supporting local youth mental health services. Whether you’re tackling the 5K, jogging the 1-Mile, or cheering on the little ones in the Kids Dash, it’s an inspiring and impactful way to begin Independence Day.
And then comes the main event: the Grand Old Fourth of July, Bainbridge’s signature holiday celebration and largest single-day event of the year. This full-day festival includes everything from pancakes to parades, a car show to a street fair, live music, family zones, and more. Centered around the iconic 1 p.m. parade — complete with floats, community groups, and good old-fashioned patriotic fun — the Grand Old Fourth is a vibrant expression of Bainbridge Island’s identity and spirit.
What ties these events together isn’t just the red, white, and blue bunting or the cheerful crowds — it’s the sense of connection that fills the streets, parks, and gathering spots across the island. These aren’t just celebrations; they’re expressions of a community that values creativity, inclusion, and neighborly joy.
So whether you’re dancing downtown, lacing up your running shoes, or lining Winslow Way for the parade, we invite you to celebrate with us. Here’s your guide to three unforgettable events on Bainbridge Island this week.

Street Dance
Get ready to kick off your Independence Day celebrations early with one of Bainbridge Island’s most beloved summer traditions — the annual Winslow Way Street Dance, happening Thursday, July 3, from 6 to 11 p.m. in downtown Bainbridge. This lively community event transforms the heart of Winslow into a festive pedestrian promenade filled with music, dancing, family fun, and local flavor.
The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with live performances on the Street Dance stage. Expect an energizing lineup of local talent to set the tone, followed by a live DJ spinning danceable beats from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., creating an irresistible street party vibe for all ages.
For families with young children, the Kid’s Zone will be the place to be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Hosted by the Kids Discovery Museum (KiDiMu), this area promises a variety of engaging, hands-on activities that encourage kids to build, create, and explore while parents enjoy the music and mingle with neighbors.
No street party is complete without great food, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Food vendors will line Winslow Way, offering a diverse selection of eats to satisfy every craving — from savory street fare to sweet treats. Local restaurants and cafes will also be open, providing a chance to support island businesses while soaking up the festive atmosphere.
For guests aged 21 and over, the Beer & Wine Garden will be a major draw. Sponsored by local favorites Bainbridge Brewing, Fletcher Bay Winery, and Sisters' Cider, the garden is a perfect place to unwind with friends while enjoying island-made beverages. Just don’t forget your ID, and come prepared with cash or a credit card.
Beyond the fun, this event reflects the spirit of Bainbridge Island — a celebration of community, collaboration, and shared joy. Volunteers are still welcome and much appreciated, both to help bring the event to life and to assist in the quick overnight cleanup before the streets fill again for the Grand Old Fourth Parade.
Whether you’re a long-time islander or visiting for the holiday, don’t miss this joyful celebration of music, community, and summertime magic in the heart of Winslow. Lace up your dancing shoes and get ready to make some memories!

BYS Fun Run
Start your Independence Day with purpose, energy, and community spirit at the Annual BYS Fun Run, happening Friday, July 4, 2025, in downtown Bainbridge Island. This beloved tradition has brought islanders together for over 40 years and remains a festive and meaningful way to begin the holiday while supporting an essential cause — youth mental health.
Hosted by Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS), the Fun Run begins at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Winslow Way, the heart of downtown. Runners, walkers, families, and friends of all ages are encouraged to join in the celebration, choosing from three event options: a 5K, a 1-Mile Fun Run, or the ever-popular Kids Dash, specially designed for children 7 and under.
Whether you're racing for a personal best or strolling alongside friends, every step makes a difference. All registration fees directly benefit BYS, a cornerstone nonprofit that offers free, confidential mental health services to Bainbridge youth and their families. The Fun Run is BYS’ largest annual fundraiser, and your participation helps fund critical programs that support young people navigating today’s mental health challenges.
The atmosphere is vibrant, welcoming, and thoroughly celebratory — a perfect lead-in to the rest of Bainbridge Island’s renowned 4th of July festivities. Families often treat the event as a holiday warm-up, arriving in festive gear, donning red, white, and blue, and cheering each other on from the sidelines.
Participants are encouraged to register early to reserve one of the coveted BYS Fun Run T-shirts — a longtime badge of island pride. Supplies are limited and shirts go fast, so don’t wait to pick yours up.
Whether you're a seasoned runner or just in it for the fun, the BYS Fun Run offers something for everyone: a chance to connect with the community, celebrate the holiday, and support an organization that uplifts island youth every day of the year.
So, lace up those running shoes, grab your family and friends, and join the island in moving — and giving — together. See you at the starting line!
