March 2025 Top 3
The days are getting longer but I don’t think anyone can argue that February weather around here was expected. I am chock full of entertainment recommendations coming into the Month.
I equally loved the book Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe and the adapted Hulu series. I know some folks have already circled through this one but if you haven’t caught up on the limited series, it’s delicious. The colors are gorgeous, the characters that we see grow older and wiser are perfectly cast.
Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland is a critically acclaimed narrative nonfiction book that delves into the history and human cost of The Troubles, a violent conflict in Northern Ireland. The book centers on the 1972 abduction and murder of Jean McConville, a mother of ten, by the Provisional IRA, and uses her story to explore the broader political and social turmoil of the era. Keefe weaves together the lives of key figures such as Dolours Price, Brendan Hughes, Gerry Adams, and McConville’s children to provide a gripping account of events like the civil rights movement, the IRA’s bombing campaigns, the 1981 hunger strikes, and the eventual peace process.
The book also examines the Belfast Project, an oral history initiative that sought to document the conflict but sparked controversy over its revelations.
The Telepathy Tapes is a podcast and documentary series directed by Ky Dickens that explores claims of telepathic abilities, particularly among nonverbal individuals with autism. It combines personal stories, interviews, and purported evidence to challenge mainstream scientific understanding of communication and consciousness. In particular, it’s a fascinating exploration into the non-verbal autistic community, their families and how traditional educational tools are only touching the very surface of their understanding of savantism. Some critics have labeled the podcast as pseudoscience, but it’s a fascinating listen regardless.
This book was recommended by a good friend, and I was floored. It’s a memoir that chronicles the extraordinary life of a suburban soccer mom who was convicted of stealing her neighbors credit cards to fund her heroin addiction. In prison and post release, she navigates shame, social stigma and the many systemic barriers faced by felons in reintegrating into society. Heartbreaking, inspiring, vulnerable and deeply funny.
